The DGS central utility plant, which heats and cools 23 state-owned buildings in downtown Sacramento, is one of the most efficient of its kind in the nation and enables DGS to continue to reduce energy use in state buildings.

DGS is proud to win a prestigious sustainability award for its environmentally-responsible government operations.

The department has been honored with a Clean Air Award from Breathe California of Sacramento-Emigrant Trails. DGS-owned and operated state buildings, zero-emission vehicles and commitment to sustainable public school design were recognized by the non-profit organization.

Under the leadership of Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr., DGS is leading by example to green its operations in order to reduce the department’s impact on the environment, combat climate change and save taxpayer dollars in the process.
