DGS’ commitment to sustainability and reducing greenhouse gases was recognized recently by Breathe California of Sacramento-Emigrant Trails with its 2016 Clean Air Award. Breathe California is a nonprofit organization “dedicated to maintaining healthy air and preventing lung and other air-pollution related diseases.”

The award cites DGS’ participation in SMUD’s Greenergy program, which offsets 100 percent of the energy DGS buildings consume with renewable power generation. Other sustainability efforts include DGS’ incorporation of zero-emission vehicles into state vehicle fleets and the 7x7x7 initiative by the Division of the State Architect, whose goal is to reduce energy and water consumption in school design.

Other 2016 Clean Air Award winners (there were seven) include the City of Rancho Cordova, Raley’s Family of Fine Foods and the Sacramento River Cats Baseball Club.
